Tribal Age

Historians call the thousand years before the founding of the Kingdom of Zegon the Tribal Age.

Humans founded small tribes for better survival against wild animals and monsters. Men hunted animals while women raise children. Tribes were typically led by an elder or chieftain, usually either the oldest, wisest or strongest man in the tribe. As tribes grew in size, hunting parties of each tribe began to explore their surrounding regions, withering down the population of wild animals to make the lands safe for settlement. Over a period of a few hundred years, these tribes eventually encountered one another and established contact.

The next few hundred years saw invasions as tribes sought to expand their territories to control more resources. Tribes merged to become larger and more powerful in order to defend their territories from aggressors and also to invade other tribes. Shamans with rudimentary magic emerged during this period of time and were sought after by tribal chieftains as advisors.

By around 500 BFZ, only seven large human tribes remained. The tribes were Grey Wolf, Red Eagle, White Snake, Brown Horse, Black Scorpion, Blue Falcon and Green Spider. Border skirmishes were kept to the minimum, and invasions against other tribes were avoided as the tribes were wary of committing resources and manpower and leaving themselves open to attacks by other tribes. Barter trade, skills trade, and culture began to develop and flourished. The gods who lived among the humans shared new technology and inventions as well as introducing arts.

Civilization began taking root in Zegon as technology progressed and arts enjoyed a slow but sure start. With large territories and populations to manage, tribal chieftains began to assemble ruling castes.

In 10 BFZ, Grey Wolf saw a change in chieftain-hood as their old chieftain was succeeded by his son, Xath. Xath had a vision of a unified human civilization.

In 5 BFZ, Xath began his missionary campaign to share his vision with the chieftains of other tribes.

In 3 BFZ, Xath's attempts to unite the tribes peacefully came to a standstill. Red Eagle, Brown Horse and Blue Falcon pledged their allegiance to Xath while the other three tribes were opposed his vision. Xath launched an armed campaign, known later as the Unification War, which lasted for three years.
