In the golden years of the Tribal Age, 7 tribes shared the lands. They are the Brown Horse, the Red Eagle, the Green Spider, the Blue Falcon, the Grey Wolf, the White Snake, and the Black Scorpion.
Xath, the leader of Grey Wolf, formed a diplomatic expedition in 5 BFZ and began his visits to the other tribes to share his vision of a unified human civilization. He first met with the chieftain of the neighboring Red Eagle, whom he shared a friendship with. Grey Wolf and Red Eagle shares a long history of cooperation and mutual friendship. Red Eagle's chieftain pledged his allegiance to Xath in return for a promise that he will retain ruler-ship of his lands.
Xath attempted to visit White Snake next. However, due to White Snake's fierce hostility towards other tribes, Xath was halted at the border of White Snake's territory and forced to leave.
Xath then made his way to Blue Falcon. The chieftain of Blue Falcon was adamant about refusing to cede his lands despite Xath's sincere assurance that he will retain ruler-ship of his lands. When negotiations with Blue Falcon came to an impasse, Kelsius, Xath's chief advisor, asked Harlek, Xath's champion, to lead his fighters in a mock battle around their camp as a display of power. Witnessing the strength of the fighters of Grey Wolf, the chieftain of Blue Falcon pledged his allegiance.
With the hostility of White Snake and the initial reluctance of Blue Falcon in mind, Xath felt that he needed a fighting force that can take the other lands by force if necessary. He persuaded the chieftains of Red Eagle and Blue Falcon to send their fighters and hunters to train under Harlek. Harlek returned to Grey Wolf with the hunters and fighters of other tribes to train them.
Xath went on to visit Green Spider. The chieftain pledged his allegiance to Xath readily and personally escorted his expedition to Black Scorpion territory. Black Scorpion's chieftain welcomed Xath warmly. He prepared a lavish camp and sumptuous feasts everyday for Xath's expedition. On the fourth day of Xath's visit to Black Scorpion, Xath's camp was attacked by the combined force of Black Scorpion and Green Spider. The expedition was caught by surprise and murdered without a fight.
Xath fled with the aid of Kelsius and a few remaining expedition guards. They escaped into Brown Horse territory. Despite his losses, Xath continued his mission and persuaded Brown Horse's chieftain to his cause. Xath sent a message of distress to Harlek with help from the chieftain of Brown Horse. Leading a small force, Harlek traveled through Green Spider's territory unnoticed and rendezvous with Xath and what was left of the expedition. Bolstered by Brown Horse's forces, Harlek and Xath fought their way through Green Spider territory and returned home.
Preparation for War.
Xath began to prepare for war when it was clear that the diplomacy approach became ineffectual. Harlek intensified the training of his new army, organizing the fighters and hunters into 4 regiments based on their tribes, and with each regiment under the command of the tribe's champion. Xath recruited Morok the Silent under the recommendation of Kelsius and sent Morok to assassinate the shamans of the enemy tribes. Kelsius believed that the shamans' preference for the old ways would pose a threat to the new kingdom. Furthermore, these shamans wield magic that are beneficial to their tribes. Within months, Harlek's forces were ready and Xath launched his war to unify all tribes.
War.
With 4 regiments at his disposal, Harlek left 2 regiments behind as a defensive force while leading the other 2 regiments up North in an offensive strike towards White Snake. He overran the defenses of White Snake and forced the chieftain of White Snake to surrender. The chieftain and his family were exiled to the mountainous regions of White Snake territory. The task of keeping the people of White Snake under careful watch was given to the Red Eagle. The army then marched for Green Spider, spending the winter near the border of Red Eagle and Green Spider. When spring came, Harlek launched his assault on the Green Spider.
The war to conquer Green Spider territory was long and bloody. The alliance of Green Spider and Black Scorpion was strong and well prepared. Coupled with their knowledge of the terrains, they put up a fierce fight against Harlek's army. However, Harlek's army was a few times larger than the alliance of Green Spider and Black Scorpion, and they were better trained than their enemies. Finally, together with the reinforcement led personally by Xath, Harlek outmaneuvered his enemies, blocking their retreat into Black Scorpion territory and trapping them in Green Spider's main tribal settlement. In the final battle, Xath himself fought and slain the chieftain of Green Spider in revenge for the trap that almost killed him years ago.
Xath ordered the army to press on immediately towards Black Scorpion territory. The defenses of Black Scorpion was already weakened, with most of their fighters killed during the previous battles. Xath's army met with little resistance and swiftly captured Black Scorpion's main tribal settlement. The chieftain of Black Scorpion surrendered in the face of an overwhelming force, but Xath ordered the chieftain to be executed.
The execution of the chieftain of Black Scorpion marked the end of the Unification War.
