Fighting the Barbarian Insurgence

The Beginning of the Insurgence can be found here.

Progress of the Insurgence.

In the beginning, the Barbarian Warriors launched sporadic attacks on soldiers in the Grand Army of Zegon and pillaged villages and towns. King Xath responded to the attacks by dispatching his Knights and the soldiers from the Grand Army to put down the Barbarian Warriors. The attacks increased in intensity as more Warrior communities were being convinced by Redjya to join in the game. The Warriors are vicious fighters and casualties on both sides were high.

King Xath was concerned about committing more resources to battle the Barbarian Warriors. Since the discovery of the tribe of White Fish, he is convinced that there are other sentient beings living outside of the natural boundaries of his kingdom. His plan was to send his army out on expeditions beyond his kingdom. However, the Insurgence was threatening to derail his plans.

Formation of the Protectorate.

In 3 AFZ, the Protectorate was established by King Xath under the recommendation of High Commander Harlek with the purpose of quelling the Insurgence, freeing the Grand Army to focus on preparing for its expeditions. Harlek's son Hulzek was appointed the High Commander of the Protectorate. The unit he led during the Unification War, known as the Protectors, were transferred from the Grand Army to serve with him in the Protectorate. Harlek and his Protectors developed training methods and created tactics that allows the kingdom to quell the Insurgence effectively.

Quelling the Insurgence.

When the Protectorate was ready, it took over the responsibility of fighting the Barbarian Warriors from the Grand Army. The fight against the Insurgence proved to be a long one. Over the years, the Protectors became better, while the Barbarian Warriors became bolder.

In 8 AFZ, the Barbarian Warriors actively targeted the nobles' houses for pillage and plunder. Afraid that their houses would be next, the nobles approached the elusive Guild, known in certain circles as the Guild of Assassins, to hire mercenaries to defend them and their houses.

In 10 AFZ, King Xath recognized the usefulness of the Guild in quelling the Insurgence. The Guild's guild master Morok was ordered to send out his Stalkers to locate insurgent cells and exterminate the members of the cells. The Insurgence continued for many more years as the Protectorate and the Guild were unable to end the threat swiftly and completely.

End of the Insurgence?

In 21 AFZ, the attacks inexplicably stopped. This coincided with rumors that Redjya, the instigator of the Insurgence, was slain. The Guild was asked to verify the authenticity of the rumors. Once the rumors were found to be true, King Xath began to set his long awaited plan into action. He sent his Grand Army to the west to explore and to expand his kingdom.

Unfortunately, the death of Redjya gave the kingdom only a short respite.
